Black Willow Pond Farm is a diversified livestock farm owned by Carrie Edsall, that focuses on intensive grazing rotations with Katahdin sheep, meat chickens, turkeys and laying hens. The farm also raises pastured hogs and meat rabbits.
This workshop will focus on how the farm raises 800-1200 Cornish-cross and red broilers on pasture. Discussion topics will be on young chick care while in the brooder. Out on pasture we will discuss nutrition, watering systems, portable housing, fencing and predator issues. Marketing and working relationships with processors will also be covered.
Root 162 Processing owned by Jim Nichols and Clint Layne will also be on the farm processing chickens. They own and operate a state-inspected faculty, as well as a mobile unit.
