Farm to Institution New York State (FINYS) is supporting a movement of institutions of all types and sizes in New York - child care, schools, colleges, hospitals, residential facilities, senior meal centers - in purchasing more food grown and raised on New York farms, and is helping farmers create successful partnerships with institutional buyers and distributors. Cornell Cooperative Extension educators along with other professionals who completed a market readiness training program sponsored by FINYS are now offering workshops to farmers and growers who are interested in learning about opportunities for selling to institutional buyers.
The Market Readiness Workshops will share information on food service marketing trends, requirements for food safety and insurance, packaging, and more. Participants will also learn about building successful working relationships with regional buyers from institutions, distributors and food hubs who go the extra mile to source New York-grown for their customers.
Every participating farmer will take home a MarketReady binder of tips, checklists and resources, and be eligible for follow-up assistance and opportunities to connect with buyers in their region.
